Professional networking and social media portrait photographs

In social media circles a good portrait photograph is becoming ever more important as we flit between disembodied Tweets and look for reliable new professional connections on LinkedIn.  Add to this the importance we’ve placed on putting a name to a face we can’t see in front of us in other aspects of our life and you begin to understand how important a portrait that reflects your personality and professionalism can be.

Whether you’re an author giving your reader an insight as to who you are, a professional supplying an image to a client during tender which allows them to see a visual representation of who they’re dealing with, or hoping to stand out from the crowd in a professional listing or website, you need to send out a visual message as to who you are and what you’re like.

Portrait photography can be considered to be quite technical and if you approach it solely from a technical viewpoint you’ll probably produce photographs that are lit brilliantly, framed immaculately and look fantastic.  However, in a world where we need to back up our written or spoken word with a visual representation of ourselves, portraiture should also concentrate on producing a natural aspect and personality in front of a camera, that is less a brooding model’s pose and more about real smiles and relaxation.

It’s something I always aim to achieve in the professional portraits I produce for my clients, and something that goes against being a photographer only concerned with the technical aspects of his work. I often invite a client or group of clients to have both a head-shot and environmental portrait which both gives them a choice of images and me time to make sure that they are relaxed in front of the camera. Often the most important part of my work is getting to know the individual I am photographing by chatting to them prior to and during photographing them.

If you would like some professional portraits or head shots produced that maintain a professional aspect whilst looking natural and providing the viewer with a glimpse of your true personality then drop me a line, here’s just a few examples of recent social media portrait photographs.
