Earlier this summer I commissioned to produce some student conference photography for the Norwich Research Park in conjunction with several partners including the University of East Anglia (UEA). The event was an annual event run for post graduate/doctorate students and this time it was based in Norwich City Centre at The Assembly House.
The event was an all day event for which I covered the morning and lunch period to document the event and provide the organisations involved with contemporaneous images of the event for use in reports and blogs and images they could also utilise for future course promotion etc.
The morning session took place in the spacious Noverre Ballroom. I’ve seen the suite cater for Balls, Orchestra’s, Chamber Music, Business meetings and more in the past so it was good to see it used as a good sized room in which short presentations were produced for the students by leading scientists with questions and answer sessions following on. The House’s Music Room was used for refreshments at lunch time and again I took advantage of this to produce photographs particularly illustrating the interaction between students and established scientists and between the various students themselves. During the lunch break posters illustrating the research work being produced by the students were displayed and again I was asked to photograph the authors of these with their displays in addition to general documentation of the interaction and conversations about various scientific applications that the posters engendered.
The conference was particularly interesting to photograph and engaging. I’m glad to say that in addition to looking out for and capturing photographs I can often manage to pay a little attention to the subjects being talked about and am really glad to see the valuable research work being carried out in Norwich.
