Staff Headshot photography and Environmental Portraits

A recent assignment saw me visiting Canham Consulting a Norfolk based Civil & Structural Engineering and Building Surveying company. I was asked to provide new images of the company’s staff for a new web design including headshot photography and environmental portraits. Headshot photography is a requisite of most websites; clients and customers are naturally curious as to who they’re dealing with or going to deal with in their work with a company and for this reason a who’s who page is normally mandatory and a great starting point for good customer relations.

In addition to headshot photography, which is often a studio style shot of staff members that can be utilised easily in web designs and on social media, it’s also often very useful to have some environmental portraits of staff. These both show off your working environment and the size of your business and also give you a more relaxed portrait of staff members in their workplace which can be used in multiple applications.

Canham Consulting like many businesses have chosen to use some of these environmental portraits to illustrate blog posts in which a specific staff member has written an article of interest for clients. Such articles not only introduce your staff, but also advertise your services and expertise to both prospective and current clients whilst also boosting your websites engagement with google and other search engines.

The logistics of photographing multiple members of staff is often tricky and I usually maintain that you should try and provide two dates on which it’s possible to photograph all your staff members. Often a single date is stymied by sickness or diary conflicts. For such a shoot I transport a portable studio set up and usually use a private room to produce the headshot photography. To produce the environmental portraits I often supplement existing lighting with small portable flash units that can give a much nicer colouration to an office environment which would otherwise be unsuitable for photography.

I hope you like just a small sample of the images produced for Canham below, if you’re interested in having some photography produced for your business or company please get in touch.
