I’m very proud of Norfolk Businesses, we’re a hard working county with Tourism, Farming and Conservation being vital to our beautiful outdoor environment.
A recent assignment involved working with a Norfolk Farm specialising in producing famous traditional tasting free-range Norfolk Black and Bronze Turkeys. With images needed for advertising, promotion and their website ahead of the Christmas rush, Morton’s Traditional Taste wanted some fresh images of their production and specifically the environment the Turkey’s life in. It was a great assignment for a photographer who was selling his chicken’s eggs by the tender age of about 11. I know chickens, geese, Guinea fowl and other birds well but Turkeys despite living in Norfolk for 17 years had alluded me.
The turkeys on the farm are free-range, they have shelter but can run around to their hearts content in large paddocks and even on occasion jump their protective fencing for a further forage. I enjoyed differentiating between the two distinct breeds who are reared on the farm, the Norfolk Black and Norfolk Bronze. The Norfolk Black is a large and slightly wild bird and the males grow particularly large and can be quite territorial. I spent some time lying on the floor in their enclosure letting their natural curiosity bring them closer to my camera. The Norfolk Bronze is a little less wild than the black and has a brilliant bronze sheen to it’s feathers. It was great to see both breeds moving around their enclosures freely and in large groups exploring and letting their curiosity as to the addition of a photographer get the better of them.
I hope you like some of the images produced for Morton’s Traditional Taste and hope you like me, take time to think about the quality of life experienced by your Christmas Turkey. If you need any farming business photography please get in touch.
