Promotional & Advertising Photography for Pirate Adventure Golf: Blofield.

Pirate Adventure golf is something relatively new to me and I didn’t know quite what to expect. Was I happy to help out promoting it after I’d tried a game by producing some advertising photography, oh yes!

Pirate golf is a new twist on the traditional crazy golf. Themed golf, using a theme which is very popular at the moment thanks to great films, and ignites the imagination of younger people and older alike. Boy does it do a good job, take the concept put it into action and you have a new family centred activity which is great fun and produces more than a few references to ‘gang planks’, ‘treasure’, ‘pieces of eight’, ‘scally wags’ etc etc.

However, if you put all this imagination into a concept, I think it’s only right to put imagination into the photography covering this activity. It’s rich pickings for the imagination there’s pirates, combine this with a stormy looking sky, a cannon ready to rock and some tropical plants and you’re onto a winner particularly when there’s a surly looking full sized pirate model to photograph. Next find an alligator sunning itself in a pool with it’s very own waterfall, add some lights, add a little swampy green colour to the background and hey presto you’ve gone that bit further to engage imagination and to get people visiting to engage with your golf putting greens.

I took some scouting photographs of this new course at Blofield, near Norwich to allow my own imagination to work on them and to think up lighting and concepts that would bring the Pirate golf truly alive in my imagination. I’ve used a few of the scouting photographs below to show the difference between standard photographs and professionally thought out images that aim to produce an image that’s striking and not easily forgotten. Hopefully you can see the transition from everyday to dramatic and can then appreciate the merits of hiring a professional photographer to photograph your product and service.

For this shoot I concentrated on producing striking images of features of the course that could be used for promotion and advertising with a view to a second shoot which concentrated on the interaction between customers and the course. I utilised both natural low light of an evening on some photographs and then lots of remote flashes for other images where colour was introduced to the images and atmosphere using camera settings and gels that change the colour of standard flashes to produce a theatrical/cinematic effect.

Hopefully you’ll enjoy the images.
